It’s not just our feelings that’s affected by our intelligence. For example, being sad can be caused by intelligence. It occurs when we are overly sad because we are too intelligent.
To me, it’s amazing that the best way to deal with sadness is to make a video of yourself crying and put it on youtube. It’s that short of a story and the video should be a moment of sadness, not a moment of pain.
To think that sadness has a biological cause is a bit of an overreaction. While we can’t know the precise cause of sadness, it happens when our intelligence is too high. That’s why we see so many people whose sadness is caused by their lack of self-awareness. Being too intelligent can be a blessing and a curse.
In the example I gave above, it is the lack of self-awareness that causes the sadness. When your self-awareness is too high, you might never experience any sadness because you are so focused on your own happiness. This is the same thing that causes anxiety disorders like social anxiety, OCD, or autism. When your self-awareness is too high, your mood can spiral out of control and you can suffer from depression. In other words, you have no idea that you are depressed.
I know the feeling. For me personally, I can feel the emotion of sadness come over me so fast that I can hardly stop myself because I just can’t believe that I am feeling the way I am. It’s not something I think I’m good at, but I can never get enough of it.
The key to happiness? It’s not what you think it is. Sadness, anxiety, and depression are all emotional responses to our own self-reflection, and when we’re too self-aware we make decisions based on our emotional state. It’s a powerful thing to be aware of.
While we can control what we are feeling, we can’t really control the way we are feeling. To really learn about yourself and change your emotional state, you have to make deliberate mental exercises, like taking a good long walk or doing yoga, to really get into your feelings. And that doesn’t just apply to the bad stuff. You could turn your head 180 degrees and look at the sun or the stars, and you might still see the same emotion.
If you think about it, it’s a pretty powerful thing to be aware of. You dont have to have that awareness all the time. You could just be walking around a room, and you see something that makes you sad. The key here is that you have to be intentionally aware of your emotions and consciously change them.
A simple example is when you have a lot of negative feelings about something. You may be sad that you do not get to choose your job, or that the boss you hate is no longer there. You may be sad that your partner no longer loves you or that you’ve been dumped by someone at work. You dont have to have this all the time though.
I’ve been in situations where I was feeling down and wasn’t sure why. I’d think about how I was feeling and then say to myself, “you know, I think I’m sad.” Then I thought, “okay, I’m sad.” If you’re feeling down and sad but you’re not sure why, this is a good strategy.
