We’re all self-aware, but the problem is that we all forget to look at our actions and how we can make our lives better, even if we dont always see it coming.
I’m not saying that we can’t always make things better, but I am saying that we can only do so much. If we focus only on the immediate problem of how to solve it, we will make it worse. The problem with the current self-awareness movement is that it’s overly focused on the immediate problem. We need to be more mindful and more aware of our self, and our actions.
I just heard an interesting anecdote from our friend, who works in the video game industry and is also a self-aware human being. He was asked by his boss to draw a diagram of the entire life he had spent in his company. He drew a diagram for the entire life, including how much time he spent away from the company, his personal goals, and how he spent his time. Then, he asked his boss if he could just draw a diagram of the first half of his life.
The problem is, of course, that you can’t just do that. How can you draw the first half of your life? Well, you can’t. That is, you can’t draw the first 10 minutes. You can only draw the last half of your life. But you can draw the first half of your life, and then the last half of your life, and then the first half of your life again, all in the same graph.
