This is a common scenario for people with limited computer access. There are many browsers that offer better web experiences. Canvas is one of them. For those who have more of a laptop-access preference, there are lots of things that can be improved for the web browser in general.
If you’re still on the fence about what to do, I recommend the latest version of Firefox. It’s a pretty nice browser and offers lots of improvements. I’m a fan as well, but I would like to see the version that comes with the Mac OSX Snow Leopard install.
Unfortunately, the newest version of Firefox, called Firefox 3.5, isn’t available for Mac OSX Snow Leopard. It’s available for Linux, but there’s a version for Windows too. All in all, I think that’s a great thing. There are lots of people out there who have a Mac, and they don’t have to use a separate operating system just because they don’t want to.
This is why a version for Windows is so important. The Mac version of Firefox is pretty good, but it doesnt have the latest and greatest features that would make it a usable tool.
The version that is available for Windows is called “Firefox 3.5” and although its not that great is still very useful. It has a new “extended” view mode where you can use your keyboard or mouse to type in search results, and the search results are much more detailed and easier to navigate.
It is nice to have something that works on Windows, but it doesnt have too many of the latest features that would make it useful. Windows users may like the new extended view mode, but it is not the same as the Mac version.
It seems that a lot of companies still only offer Windows versions on their web sites. Mozilla, Google, and Opera all give you this option.
Although Mozilla’s version works better for windows, the Mac version still has a few bugs that might not be worth fixing. I don’t think Opera should be offering a Mac version in an alternative format.
If you ever want to run your web sites on Firefox but your computer has not a hardware accelerated graphics processor, you can always try Chrome. It is very fast and has many of the same features, but without the need for a hardware accelerated graphics processor.
