I love this quote from The Great Gatsby. “The code of the novel is the one in the mind.” It’s true. We can’t stop thinking and talking about stuff. But we can stop thinking about it. We can stop thinking if we’re aware of what we’re thinking about.

You say that you like that quote. My brain is filled with all kinds of thoughts right now. I’m not sure if that means I’m thinking all the time or if I’m just a little bit distracted. But I can tell you this much. I am thinking about the code of the novel.

The code of the novel is the one in the mind. A book is an idea and it should be represented in words. A man is a man, an idea and a man. A code is a set of symbols. A man is a man, an idea and a code. A code is a code. We should be using the code of a novel to our advantage. But we should be aware of what we are reading and thinking.
